Whoever said mega-malls are dead has not checked out The Mall at University Town Center in Sarasota, Florida.
Completed in October 2014, the two-year, fast-paced, 895,000-square foot mall has Saks Fifth Avenue, Dillard’s and Macy’s as major tenants, and more than 100 other stores, including Apple, Michael Kors, Tesla, Microsoft, Lululemon, Kate Spade New York, Anthropologie, Calypso St. Barth, and L’Occitane. Restaurants include the Capital Grille, the Cheesecake Factory, BRIO Tuscan Grille, Kona Grill, Seasons 52, and Burger & Beer Joint.
More than 1,000 workers built the mall in the affluent Sarasota area to fill a market void for an upscale destination shopping experience between Tampa and Naples.
The project had been on the drawing board since 2010. As the economy recovered, the developer secured the necessary state and local permits and approvals and broke ground in October 2012.
As construction started, excavators, loaders and dozers were used to clear the 276 acres of land and prepare the 73-acre foundation, and level an area for the 4,100 parking spaces. Neff Rental rented earthmoving, aerial and trenching equipment to the site preparation, concrete, electrical, plumbing and HVAC subcontractors who built The Mall at University Town Center.
As the deadline approached to complete the enclosed mall, contractors worked around the clock to finish the job. Providing 24/7 service to keep pace with the contractors’ deadlines, the Sarasota branch team, as well as other Neff Rental branches in the area, delivered equipment and service when and where it was needed.
When The Mall at University Town Center was completed in October 2014, it opened for business to the more than 125,000 residents living in the area, and visitors from nearby cities.
