In 2011, a $360 million zinc and diversified metals production facility was permitted for construction near the South Carolina state line in Mooresboro, NC. The owner and general contractor hired subcontractors that would soon rent equipment to build the state-of-the-art plant.
There was a three-year deadline to replace an outdated plant in Pennsylvania with the technologically advanced North Carolina facility.
The job involved clearing land, building concrete retention areas, installing and welding pipeline, erecting metal and brick buildings, constructing steel storage towers, as well as burying utility infrastructure, laying down a rail head, and building roads and bridges to support the facility.
The types, capabilities and sizes of delivered equipment matched the construction phases – excavators and rollers for the site contractor to clear and compact earth; wheel loaders and air compressors for a railroad spur contractor; boom lifts, forklifts, scissor lifts and welding machines for mechanical, plumbing, masonry, tank installation and electrical subcontractors; and mini-excavators and skid steers for concrete work.
The 260-employee plant opened on time during the first quarter of 2014, thanks in part to Neff Rental’s Greer, South Carolina, team and their ability to offer reliable equipment, deliver it on time and provide 24/7 service.
