When simultaneously constructing several warehouse buildings in the New Hope Commerce Center in Raleigh, NC, the general contractor and subcontractors found that it was advantageous to rent equipment for the projects.
New Hope Commerce Center is a 40-acre master planned industrial park outside of Raleigh, NC, with 350,000 square feet of space. Phase one was completed in 2009 with a 151,000-square-foot medical products distribution center. Phase two was started in August 2013, with the construction of a tilt-wall concrete 100,000 square-foot warehouse for a tire distribution company and a granite wholesaler on a 9.5-acre lot.
Several excavators, dozers and rollers were initially rented to get the project in motion and when large amounts of rock were found, a 10,000-pound Atlas-Copco hydraulic hammer was attached to a Kobelco 350 excavator to break it up.
After the tire warehouse construction was underway, subcontractors kept busy and rented similar equipment to start two additional projects; a 16,000-square-foot Peterbilt sales and service center, as well as a spec warehouse building.
Steel and hydraulic trench safety equipment and manhole boxes were also rented to install water lines and manholes on both projects. Excavators were used to install and remove the trench safety shoring.
